Dawn of the Dead '78 or Dawn of the Dead '04?
Basically the same question as in the "Night" thread. Tell me what you think?

****spoliter alert******I loved them both. Two different movies really. Probably prefer the first one, but Ving Rhames saying, "Say something!" to that nurse while pointing a shotgun at her was classic. Also loved when they were shooting 'celebrities.'
The beginning of the re-make was riveting. Had my heart pumping. Just wish really that it was a different movie and they didn't go to the mall, even though I still enjoyed it. No complaints, really. Guess I would have loved to write that book, and see where it took me.

I agree that it (the remake) was a really good movie, I just wish it wasn't marketed as a "remake" since it really was a completely different story altogether. The only similarities was a pregnant woman, an African American hero, and the mall. I think I would've prefered it to be its own film, if you know what I mean.

I'm in agreement with you both - they each had their own merits. I like the original because it was so different from what was around at that time. And in '04, it was a chance to see what could be updated with effects. Doesn't hurt that it was shot in my home town
Like both of you, I wish that it hadn't been toted around as a remake of the '78 version. While they were similar, there was enough a difference to let them stand on their own.
